A new biofungicide ASPERELLO T34 Biocontrol won a prestigious Silver Innovation Award within the production horticulture category at the international Salon du Végétal trade fair. Biobest and Biocontrol Technologies, producer of ASPERELLO T34 Biocontrol, have worked together closely to offer this innovative product to growers. With multiple modes of action, the new biofungicide colonises plant roots to form a protective barrier against pathogens to support healthy root growth. Triggering plants’ natural defense mechanisms, while parasitising and actively killing pathogens, the product offers outstanding biological protection against root diseases such as Pythium and Fusarium.
Biobest pleased with ASPERELLO T34 Biocontrol award
Receiving the Award at the presentation ceremony last week, Yann Jacques of Biobest said; “We are delighted to receive this confirming the growing interest in biological solutions for the ornamentals market. Soil borne diseases remain a key challenge in many ornamental crops. ASPERELLO T34 Biocontrol is a tailor made solution for growers. Conveniently, it can be incorporated in the substrate, drenched on to seedlings or applied by spraying or via irrigation. Registered in tomato, eggplant, and pepper for Pythium control, ASPERELLO T34 Biocontrol is welcome by French vegetables growers. We are convinced that the product will be a success in ornamental crops as well.”
The Salon du Vegetal judging committee is made up of leading researchers, growers, suppliers and journalists. Both ASPERELLO T34 Biocontrol and Biobest’s Sphaerophoria-System (for improving aphid control) were in the shortlist of seven products in the production innovations category. With over 600 exhibitors, Salon du Végétal, which covers ornamental production, distribution, landscaping and floristry, relocated this year from Angers to the Convention Centre in Nantes.
Growers must ensure ASPERELLO T34 Biocontrol is registered in their country before use. In the United States, ASPERELLO T34 Biocontrol is registered for the use in greenhouse ornamentals against Fusarium, Pythium, Phytophthora and Rhizoctonia. In France, it is registered for the entire ornamental sector (under protection) against Fusarium and for Pythium control in tomato, cucumbers, sweet peppers and eggplants. Whereas in Belgium, it is approved for annual ornamentals against Fusarium and against Pythium in those vegetables. However in the Netherlands, the product is officially registered only against Fusarium in carnations and against Pythium in key vegetables.
